My Goals For Life

August 5, 2011

Hello Folks, well the TKT course will cease tomorrow.  I am very blissful and anxious to continue learning. What’s after TKT?  Well my fist goal was to take the TKT course. I have reached my first goal. What are my next goals? Well I am going to take the TTC (Teachers Training Course) which will initiate in September I chose the Saturday schedule. This means my weekdays will be free. But I am also going to start school in the IMCED here in Morelia, and obtain my degree in Enseñaza Del Ingles. After I have accomplished these goals I am planning to look for a job as in English teacher. Here I will use all the knowledge that I have received in the TKT course, TTC and my degree. I think that everything that I have learned during the TKT course is very valuable for me and my future students.  I have learned a myriad of things in this intensive course like how to motivate my students, different learning styles and how to do a lesson plan and much more. This TKT course was actually more than what I expected. I thought that I was only going to learn a few simple teaching strategies but I actually learned a lot more thanks to the great teacher we had. She would help us go beyond the TKT and beyond theories and taught us how to think, work and how to react in real life situations. Thank you very much Ellen. I hope that in the future I could be an excellent teacher like you are.

Students’ back talking in the classroom is something that one day every teacher will have to deal with. When I was a student in middle school, I remember one of my classmates started arguing with another classmate. Things started to get a little ugly and the teacher tried to stop them. But It ended up In a great argument between two students and a teacher. So what the teacher did was to send both of them out of the classroom and to the principal’s office.  But this  did not stop there; when one of the students was walking out of the classroom he turned around and told the teacher a bad word. The teacher got red and really mad and screamed “get out of here!!!!!”

Well maybe you’re thinking this was funny. But this is real life and this happens all the time and it is not funny it is something very serious that us as teachers should always be aware of. When this happens we should keep calm and not answer them because that makes a fool of you and the student. If you give them a clear instruction and then ignore the student, he will be embarrassed and feel guilty this will calm himself down to see he is the only guy talking. I’m glad that what happened to me in middle school didn’t get worse.

Bloom’s Taxonomy

July 26, 2011

Bloom’s taxonomy is a classification of the different objectives that teachers use for students learning aims. Blooms taxonomy is divided in several parts as you can see in the picture above.

This is a great way for my children to learn. I thought of this project that my students would enjoy. In this project every student can choose a different product that they can create in the future. This can be anything a car, computer and cellphone whatever they want. Not only will they use their imagination, but they will have fun seeing everyone’s product.

A product for the future

Remembering: Define what your new product will be able to offer.

Understanding: Describe all of your new products functions and cool gadgets.

Applying: Make a sketch of your new product.

Analyzing: Examine and compare your classmate’s new products to yours.

Evaluating: Defend your new product and support it with several reasons why people should buy it.

Creating: Assemble a small scale of what your new product will look like and all its functions.

Hello folks,

Well today I did a fun activity. In this site: www.howtolearn.com/start/learning-styles-inventory I did my personal learning style to see what I was more, visual learner, auditory learner or kinesthetic learner. As you can see in the picture I am 14% visual learner, 47% auditory learner and 38%kinesthetic learner. I agree with my results because I am very auditory and kinesthetic. Now I know why I am very slow at writing.

I also did another test online. Here is the site: http://www.bgfl.org/bgfl/custom/resources_ftp/client_ftp/ks3/ict/multiple_int/index.htm . And this is a different test this one is a multiple intelligence test. I must admit I was surprised with my results.

I think knowing this as a teacher will help me and my student very much. How does knowing this help my students? Well I’m an auditory learner and a kinesthetic learner. So if my students are auditory or kinesthetic I will know how to teach them English. With this I know what learning styles me students need.

See, listen and comment

July 18, 2011

I found this amazing website www. Fotobabble .com. Here you can upload a picture and record you voice. I find this tool useful because my students can see the picture, listen to my recording and make a comment. With this tool I make my students write and improve their writing skills. Take a look at my fotobabble at:

Literature Circles

July 17, 2011

lit circles

lit circles

Literature circle are a fun way of reading and replacing the ordinary boring way of reading. These last few days I have had the experience to be in a lit circle In class. And It is much better than just sitting down and reading a book. A lit circle helps our reading skills because we use different reading skills like scanning, reading for detail, deducing meaning from context, skimming, inferring and predicting. In my experience in lit circles we sat down in a table with four students in each table. And we were assigned to read each one of us a different page of the same book. We had four minutes only so we had to read fast and also take notes. When I was reading there were certain words that I did not really understand the meaning and I couldn’t use a dictionary so I deduced meaning from context and boom!! There I had it I actually knew what the word meaning was. After the four minutes we all talked about what we read in our pages and at the end we all had an idea of what each page talked about. It was great I enjoyed it. I’m sure I’ll use literature circles with my students.

Hello friends

Well these are some cool graphic organizers that I consider would be great for middle school kids. I picked the fishbone organizer which is great to fill out after reading and analyzing the who, what, when, where, why and how of a story. I also chose the hamburger paragraph organizer which is great to use after reading. In this organizer you can summarize the story writing the topic sentence and the most important parts of the story and the concluding sentence. The third organizer is one of my favorite because it is more complete then the other two and this one gets the student to really read and concentrate in the story. In this organizer as you can see in the picture, you have to write setting of the story, major character, minor characters etc.

How much grammar do we need to know? Well the truth is we will never really finish learning. Each teacher teaches at different levels: beginners, intermediate and advanced but no matter the level you teach, a good level of grammar will always help the teacher and the students. What is shown In this video Is really embarrassing. It is sad to see how people do not really care much about grammar (including Gorge W. Bush). This video shows exactly what we do not want to be and precisely what we teachers are fighting against.

My Wordle

July 13, 2011

Hello folks here is my Wordle with some of the words that I think that are the most important. Today we reviewed all this for example the prepositions these never standalone they are always accompanied by other words and these give specific information. We reviewed grammar and vocabulary, suffixes, prefixes, lexis and much more. In my Wordle I put the word idiomatic expressions for me this was very fun because most of us did not know much of this like the one Ellen used “up in arm”.

TKT Course

July 13, 2011

Hello folks this is my second day in the TKT course. I am actually having fun but I admit it is kind of intense but it is well worth it. I think Ellen is a great teacher and that she is doing everything she can to help us and improve our skills. Today was a really busy day, we reviewed several things like prepositions were we saw an awesome video, characteristic of preposition, word meanings, types of words formation and a lot more. We also worked in our TKT preparation course anthology were we answered a few exercises. Anyway today was a great day  I can not wait to see what we will do tomorrow.
